Images and Sounds Enhanced by Aris Entertainment
Windows Users - Navigational Software
-------------------------------------
Every attempt has been made to provide MPC compatible content,
both in images (BMP format) and sound (WAV format). A
Windows navigational program can be found in the root
directory of the disc. You may install part of or all of the software
to the hard drive by using the SETUP.EXE program, through Window's File
Manager. The choice is yours. Installing everything to the hard disk
provides better performance, however, it will add about 1.5 MB of files
to your hard drive. Buttons in the book may be used with a mouse, or with
the TAB (which moves around the app) and Enter key (to select a
highlighted button).
Standard Windows style help is available, just press the button labeled
"?" on the button bar.
Keep in mind the following requirements for Windows users:
1. You must have Windows version 3.1 or version 3.0 with the
multi-media extensions. Windows 3.1 or later is recommended.
2. You must have an MPC compatible sound card to use the sound. Boards
from Creative Labs (the SoundBlaster Pro), Media Vision (Pro Audio
Spectrum), and many other vendors have been tested for compatibility with
this product.
3. Pictures work best with the 256 color 640 x 480 Windows driver.
These are available direct from the video board manufacturer. Aris
does not supply these. You must have at least 512K of video RAM for this
feature to work.
4. If the sound breaks up, try to increase the buffering done by Windows.
To do this, go to the Main Window, select Control Panels, then select
Drivers. Double click on the MCI Sound selection and move the slider to
9 seconds of buffering. If this doesn't entirely solve the problem,
you may need to increase the memory buffering in the MSCDEX statement in
your AUTOEXEC.BAT (the /m: command). Try increasing it to 16 or 20.
********** Files on this disc **********
There are 100 high quality images and 100 sound tracks stored on
this disc. Images are stored in several formats for your
convenience:
1. 24-bit TIF, in 640 x 480 format, for high resolution paint
programs and desktop publishing, in the TIFF directory. Users with
Hi-Color cards may view these true color images with programs capable
of 24-bit image display.
2. 8-bit PCX, 640 x 480 format, for most DOS paint programs, in the
PCX directory.
3. 8-bit BMP, 640 x 480 format, for compatibility with Windows, in
the BMPLARGE directory.
4. 8-bit BMP, 320 x 240 format, for high speed viewing, in the
BMPSMALL directory.
Audio is 22 Khz, 8-bit, stored as follows:
1. WAV format in the WAVE directory, for MPC compatibility.
2. VOC format in the SNDBLAST directory, for compatibility with
Sound Blaster audio cards.
DOS USERS
---------
If you have Windows 3.1 or 3.0 with multi-media extensions, we
recommend use of our Windows navigation system. Details for use of
this software follow this section.
To start using this disc, type "BATIKDES" at the CD-ROM drive's
DOS prompt. Unfortunately, low resolution versions of each picture
are not available on this disc. You will need a Sound Blaster card
or 100% compatible to hear the music.

Please note that while there is no royalty on use of Media
Clips(tm), they are copyrighted materials owned by Aris

Media Clips(tm) in any clip art product. When you use materials
from this disc, you may do so without royalty, provided you
place the following copyright notice "(C) Copyright Aris
Entertainment, Inc., 1992" and credit to the artist whose works
you have used in the credit section of your product or
presentation, or in the case of print reproduction, adjacent to
the image.
The disc you have in your CD-ROM drive contains two complete
versions of World View (tm), one for Macintosh, the other for
PC. Your CD-ROM driver is smart enough to figure out which one
you view, so sit back and enjoy.
You may use the IMAGE ALCHEMY shareware program for two weeks
without registering the software and paying the fee. Please
note, this program works well on all 640 x 480 or smaller
images. It offers many fine capabilities, such as
conversion between many different formats, including Mac and PC,
and it should find a home in your imaging utilities directories.
The registered version will handle images larger than 640 x 480.
A navigational HyperPAD application called "BATIKDES" has been
included to help find your way through the files. The TAB key
moves through the fields, ENTER selects. The mouse is also
supported. Best display quality is obtained with Super VGA
video boards with 512K of video memory. Most mainstream video boards
are supported, but there are new ones every day. The best solution
to this problem is to use our Windows version. Sound may be played if
you have a Sound Blaster or compatible card -- just select the Sound
button in the HyperPAD interface. Remember, the PC was not designed as a
multi-media machine, and so this interface is not as "robust" as
we would prefer.
Audio is stored in the WAVE directory in Microsoft's WAV
format, as well as in VOC format in the SNDBLAST directory.
This sound has been tested with MPC compatible sound boards and
is of a quality high enough (22 Khz, mono) for multi-media
presentations. You must have an MPC compatible sound board with
speaker or headphone to hear the WAV files. The Mediavision Pro
Spectrum and the Sound Blaster Professional sound boards were
used in the development of this product. They were easy to
install and both worked well.
Tech Tips
---------
1. Try installing a VESA driver, if you have a 512K VGA card and Image
Alchemy doesn't recognize your video board. These usually come on a
floppy diskette supplied by the manufacturer.
2. Use the LOWRES program if you don't have 512K of video memory.
3. Use our Windows interface. It's really much nicer!
